Inclusion is increasingly present in our daily lives and Pés de Cereja does not want to be left out when it comes to including all children , so, in partnership with Carlota , we came to talk to you about Portuguese Sign Language.
Today, November 15th , we celebrate another National Portuguese Sign Language Day , did you know?
In Portugal, according to the 2001 census, it was estimated that there are around 84,172 thousand Deaf people, however, we do not know for sure the number of children with this disability.
However, learning Sign Language can prove to be a very important tool for children to develop their capacity for empathy, motor skills and acceptance and respect for difference.
There are many advantages to learning and we could certainly build a list that would only end tomorrow, but I'll leave you with some of them here:
- We can talk through glasses;
- We can talk with our mouths full;
- It's also useful to speak sign language in noisy environments because that way, we won't need to shout;
- And we can tell secrets without other people noticing;
But after all, where can you learn Portuguese Sign Language?
Unfortunately, there aren't many platforms on the internet for you to do this, however, you can find out about my recent project on Instagram: @a.carlota.lota where, there, I can teach you Portuguese Sign Language in a fun, targeted way for children or adults.
In order to celebrate inclusion and congratulate this beautiful language, we will teach you some gestures on our Instagrams . So, don't forget to stop by.
There are many people who talk with their elbows, children are usually like that, but what if you also talk with your hands ?
It is important that we all do a little to make the world increasingly inclusive.
Join us on the adventure of learning.
