Tips to help Parents (and children) adapt to Kindergarten
For many families, it is the first time at Nursery and Kindergarten. There is a bittersweetness in these wings we give our children.
Children grow, and parents grow even more in this adaptation!
We leave some strategies to facilitate adaptation and reassure hearts.
- Always communicate with your children's educators, professionals are available to share news and define goals for adaptation together.
- Transmit CONFIDENCE AND ENTHUSIASM , speaking positively about Kindergarten to your son/daughter!
- Determine a morning routine together and try to stick to it every day! These rituals give the child stability to face new challenges!
- Involve the child in preparing for the next day (backpack, uniform, snack...), thus promoting autonomy and independence .
- Quick and affectionate goodbyes at the school door help the child enter more confident! Slow and prolonged goodbyes increase the child's (and parents') anxiety, making separation difficult!
- Don't leave without saying goodbye! Running away when the child is not watching and/or devaluing what they feel: the child creates feelings of insecurity, which are more difficult to heal than crying because they are saying "see you later, go play and I promise I will come to you search!"
- Remember that a good night's sleep and peaceful awakenings in the morning allow your child to wake up calmer and in a better mood!
We hope that with these strategies everyone can experience adaptation with more calm, happiness and enthusiasm.
Good luck!
